Africa-Press – Malawi. TNM Super League debutants Dedza Dynamos produced a scintillating performance to hold Silver Strikers 1–1 at Silver Stadium Monday. It was a game of two halves but the newcomers did enough to secure a point against last season’s runners-up.

Following the draw, Dedza are on position seven with eight points whereas Silver lie on eighth position with the same number of points. Both teams have a goal difference of two goals but Dedza have scored six, one ahead of Silver.

Clement Nyondo put Dedza in the lead in the 39th minute with a deft finish after being set up by Promise Kamwendo. Both teams had chances to score in the first half but failed to convert them into goals.

However, ugly scenes of hooliganism resurfaced at half time when a fan clad in Dynamos colours was beaten by Silver supporters in an act of juju. The fan visited Silver’s goal area and was accused of pouring substances related to magic.

This forced supporters wearing Silver colours to run after him, beating him up in the process. Security personnel and some Silver officials helped quell the situation.

After resumption, Silver came a changed side, launching a series of attacks and they were duly repaid when winger Zebron Kalima equalised in the 59th minute.

Kalima was set up by Chawanagwa Kaonga. The Bankers created several chances but could not convert them into goals. Dynamos Coach Dan Dzinkambani hailed his charges for a spirited performance.

“We played well and scoring a goal away is not an easy thing. We could have done well but lack of experience gave our counterparts a chance to equalise,” he said.

Silver Assistant Coach MacDonald Yobe said they did not utilise their chances. “We created several chances in both halves but we didn’t score. We will continue working on our finishing,” he said.

Currently, Nyasa Big Bullets are topping the table with 13 points whereas Eagles are second with the same number of points and games. Kamuzu Barracks are on position three with 10 points just like fourth-placed Mighty Wanderers.
