Africa-Press – Malawi. Football Association of Malawi (Fam) President Fleetwood Haiya has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting beach soccer to enable the sport to progress.
Haiya made the remarks during the launch of Fam Beach Soccer League in Salima District on Sunday.
He acknowledged that beach soccer currently lacks sufficient sponsorship.
“We do understand that the Beach Soccer League does not have much prize money. But we believe that, together, we can collaborate and find more sponsors for our players to be getting enough money to get motivated,” Haiya said.
He said the zone tournament would help players remain active ahead of the finals.
Beach Soccer Association Chairperson Gift Chimbalanga praised Fam for its efforts, emphasising that it is dedicated to advancing the cause of the game.
“We have all seen how Fam is dedicated to supporting Beach Soccer Association and the launch shows how the president is committed to seeing the game elevated to the next level,” Chimbalanga said.
During the launch, Big 2 Munali defeated Senga Bay Warriors 3-2.
