Africa-Press – Malawi. Friends of Mtonda has donated school uniform materials to 320 needy students from 16 schools in Ntcheu district, valued at K6 million, as a way of promoting education and supporting underprivileged learners in the area.
The group’s Chairperson, John Kaliati, said they decided to assist after noticing that many students lack proper uniforms, which affects their confidence and overall academic performance in school, highlighting the importance of addressing this basic need.
The donation has been praised by Traditional Authority Phambala, who described it as a Christmas and new year gift to needy students, acknowledging the positive impact on the community.
Ntcheu South Member of Parliament Wisdom Edgar Kapalamula, who was present at the event, has donated K1 million to help the students have their uniforms tailored ahead of the new school term, further supporting the initiative.
Primary School Education Advisor Benedicto Mphande has commended Friends of Mtonda for the support, recognizing the difference it will make in the lives of the students, but has appealed to other well-wishers to consider building more secondary schools in Mtonda, which currently has only one community day secondary school.
The area’s education sector is expected to benefit from this gesture, with the potential to boost student enrollment and academic performance, as students feel more confident and supported.
The donation is a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives, showcasing what can be achieved when individuals and organizations come together to support a common cause.
Mtonda’s students are set to start the new school term on a positive note, thanks to the kindness and generosity of Friends of Mtonda and other supporters.
