Africa-Press – Malawi. Malawi has received a significant financial boost from Germany, which has pledged €68.8 million (approximately K137.6 billion) to support the country’s fight against hunger over the next two years.

The announcement was made on Friday March,27,2026 by the German Ambassador to Malawi, Ute König, during a courtesy visit to Vice President Jane Ansah at her office in Lilongwe.

According to König, the funding forms part of Germany’s continued commitment to supporting Malawi in addressing food insecurity and strengthening resilience among vulnerable communities.

The initiative is expected to focus on interventions aimed at mitigating the impact of hunger, particularly in rural areas where many households continue to face food shortages.

In her remarks, Vice President Ansah expressed gratitude to Germany for its consistent support to Malawi across various sectors, including agriculture, food security, and development.

She noted that the assistance comes at a critical time when the country is grappling with recurring hunger challenges, exacerbated by factors such as climate change and economic pressures.

Ansah emphasized the importance of strong partnerships between the government and development partners in tackling the country’s food crisis.

She said collaborative efforts remain essential to ensuring sustainable solutions that can improve livelihoods and build resilience among Malawians.

In recent years, Malawi has faced persistent food insecurity, with many communities struggling to produce sufficient food due to erratic weather patterns and limited resources.

The latest funding from Germany is expected to play a significant role in ongoing efforts to alleviate hunger and support long-term agricultural development.

The development underscores the strengthening cooperation between Malawi and Germany, highlighting the importance of international partnerships in addressing pressing humanitarian and development challenges.
