Mhango says Parliament had a “busy but very good” week

Africa-Press – Malawi. Parliament concluded what Leader of the House Jappie Mhango described as a “busy, but very good” week, with significant legislative work completed and key developments set in motion for the coming days.

Mhango highlighted the approval of the national budget on Tuesday as a major achievement.

He noted that the budget will deliver essential resources for development projects across constituencies, ensuring communities receive critical government support.

The House also addressed routine parliamentary business, including the presentation of statements and responses to questions from members.

Lawmakers raised issues related to development initiatives in their constituencies, contributing to a constructive exchange of ideas.

In addition, Parliament approved the establishment of a fresh inquiry into the death of former Vice President Cyros Klaus Ichirima. The committee is now in place and expected to begin its work next week.

Looking ahead, Mhango said the House will continue with standard operations, including question-and-answer sessions, constituency statements, and the passage of bills supporting the budget.

He emphasized that members will have space to present their constituency concerns, ensuring local development issues remain a central part of parliamentary discussion.

Concluding his update, Mhango reiterated optimism about the House’s productivity, urging members to maintain momentum as Parliament moves forward with its legislative agenda.
