Africa-Press – Malawi. State Vice-President Michael Usi left the country on Saturday for Spain, where he will attend the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development.

The conference is set to take place in Seville, Spain, from June 30 to July 3.

The conference, which runs under the theme ‘Financing Our Future’, will bring together global leaders and stakeholders to deliberate on innovative and inclusive financing strategies to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

It will also examine progress made on international commitments such as the Monterrey Consensus, the Doha Declaration and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda.

While in Spain, Usi is expected to deliver a National Statement on behalf of President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, outlining Malawi’s position on sustainable development financing, debt sustainability and the need for a fair and reformed global financial system.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vice President will also engage in bilateral talks with political and business leaders to further Malawi’s international partnerships and promote the country’s long-term development blueprint—Malawi 2063.

The FfD4 summit is seen as a critical platform for developing countries like Malawi to advocate for equitable access to global financing mechanisms and push for reforms that address structural challenges in the international economic system.
