Africa-Press – Malawi. Association of Muslim Journalists (Amujo) has encouraged Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations candidates to believe in themselves ahead of their examination.

The association’s deputy secretary general Owings Chawanda said this during motivational talks at Nsenjere and Nkumaniza community day secondary schools in Chikwawa District, where they also donated 254 scientific calculators.

This year’s MSCE examinations are scheduled to start Tuesday.

“We came here with a word of encouragement to the MSCE examination candidates. Everything is possible if they put their heart to it. It doesn’t matter which family, ethnic group or area they come from; as long as they believe in themselves, they can do it,” Chawanda said.

“Cheating is a serious offence in the sense that apart from being disqualified, one also risks facing a jail sentence,” Chawanda said.

One of the motivational speakers at the event, Hasina Ahmad from Radio Islam, echoed Chawanda’s sentiments.

She particularly singled out girls, urging them not to undermine themselves.

Citing former State president Joyce Banda and the area’s lawmaker Abida Mia, Ahmad challenged girls to work hard in school.

Headteachers Marko Chilaphu and Chisangalalo Mpanganeni for Nsenjere and Nkumaniza CDSS, respectively, hailed the journalists for the visit.

Chilaphu took advantage of the event to highlight some of the challenges Nsenjere CDSS was facing.

“We do not have houses for teachers, which makes the learning and teaching process difficult, especially during the rainy season. The school has no library and electricity,” he said.
