Africa-Press – Malawi. Former Malawi President and opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader, Peter Muntharika joins Malawians in condemning President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse government in lack of leadership behind blackouts that have become daily life.

In a statement signed by the party publicist, Shadreck Namalomba, the former leader Muthalika states that the Tonse government has deliberately departed from the truth about the cause of the outgoing endless electricity blackouts.

Muntharika said DPP was surprised to hear the current minister blaming their party in line with the current blackouts instead of telling Malawians the truth.

He said Tonse government is to blame on the current blackouts as it cancelled the contract of 78megawatts with Aggreco at a time when the country only had 129.6 power due to Cyclone ANA effect.

Muthalika said the poor decision put pressure on operation machines resulting to continuous breakdowns on the machines. DPP leader observes that decisive leadership does not create excuses but deals with the problem before it head on.

He urged Tonse government to call for national dialogue with all the key stakeholders to discuss solutions to end blackouts. Mutharika therefore said DPP is ready to provide technical experts to help in the resolution of national blackouts if Chakwera permits.
