Africa-Press – Malawi. National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc has urged the country’s young innovators to step up and take charge of Malawi’s digital transformation.
The call was made by NBM plc Head of Corporate Banking, William Chatsala, during the launch of the 2025 ICT Association of Malawi (ICTAM) Annual Conference in Mangochi on Tuesday evening.
NBM plc has pumped K75.5 million into this year’s Innovation Jam and ICTAM Annual General Meeting (AGM), a contribution Chatsala said reflects the Bank’s confidence in the innovation ecosystem and its role in shaping Malawi’s digital future.
He said the support aligns with NBM plc’s strategy to deepen financial inclusion, expand digital payment solutions, and strengthen homegrown innovations that meet global standards.
“Malawi is part of a global movement, and our biggest opportunity lies in empowering local innovators to create local solutions for local challenges. ICTAM continues to nurture this ecosystem, and that is why National Bank stands firmly behind this organisation,” said Chatsala.
He said the Bank wants to ensure that innovative ideas move beyond concept stage into prototypes, commercialisation, and solutions with real impact.
“Today, we see that vision taking shape. Alumni are developing fintech tools, enterprise systems, e-commerce platforms, and community solutions that are already changing how Malawians live and work,” he said.
Chatsala reaffirmed NBM plc’s commitment to supporting the growth of Malawi’s digital sector and appealed to Malawians to invest in empowering young innovators to build an inclusive digital economy.
Guest of honour, Vice President Jane Ansah, urged ICT professionals to uphold high ethical and professional standards as they lead the country’s digital transformation.
ICTAM President Clarence Gama reiterated the association’s commitment to ensuring that technological progress benefits both rural and urban communities, and applauded companies like NBM plc for backing innovation.
This year’s ICTAM conference is themed “Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development: Advancing Malawi’s Digital Future.”
