Africa-Press – Malawi. TNM Super League newcomers Rumphi United are hoping to come back from their week-long break a stronger side as they continue to fight relegation. Rumphi, who anchor the log table with 10 points from 22 games, are not in action in week 24 of the league, which started Wednesday and ends on Sunday with six games.

The club’s general secretary Jones Mkandawire said the break will give them a chance to recover from their back-to-back losses, the latest being a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Silver Strikers at Rumphi Stadium on Sunday.

“We continue to believe in our ability to survive relegation.

The one-week break will help our players recuperate. Our coaches will also have the time to work on our shortfalls. It is a break that we needed so that we reorganise.

“Our fate will be decided in the remaining games but we will give it our best. We will not just give up. The will do well and remain in the Super League is there and anything can happen. We are back to training and we should not be counted out,” Mkandawire said.

Rumphi are having a debut elite league season to forget as they have conceded nine goals against three in the last three matches. On 3rd September, the Leopards of Chikulamayembe lost 1-0 to Dedza Dynamos before going down 5-2 to Kamuzu Barracks the following day.

The week started with a match between Kamuzu Barracks and Dedza Dynamos at Champions Stadium in Dowa District Wednesday. On Saturday, the action moves to Karonga Stadium where Dedza will line up against Karonga United.

Sunday will be the last day of the week’s action with four matches on the menu. Red Lions are scheduled to host Sable Farming at Balaka Stadium, with Mighty Wakawaka Tigers and Kamuzu Barracks meeting at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre.

The match of the week is expected to be a showdown between Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and Silver Strikers at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre while Dedza will conclude their tour of the North with a fixture against Ekwendeni Hammers at Rumphi Stadium.
