Africa-Press – Malawi. Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has opened the nomination process for the most outstanding players in the 2022 TNM Super League season. Sulom released a statement Tuesday, saying coaches and team captains from all the 16 teams will take part in the nomination process.
According to Sulom, the coaches and captains will nominate the most outstanding players in player of the season, the best goalkeeper, best midfielder and defender of the season categories.
“Only heads of technical panels and captains of all 16 Super League participating teams will be allowed to choose nominees. However, no team will be allowed to nominate their own player,” the statement reads.
The nomination process will run from today until November 23. In an interview Tuesday, Mighty Wakawaka Tigers Coach Trevor Kajawa welcomed the involvement of the coaches.
“It is good that coaches and captains are part of the nomination process. I am sure all the coaches and captains will nominate players on merit,” Kajawa said.
Blue Eagles Coach Eliya Kananji said he expects the nomination process to be free and fair. “This is the way to go and I believe deserving players will win the awards,” Kananji said.
The battle for the golden boot award is expected to go to the wire as Nigerian striker Babatunde Adepoju and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers striker Muhammad Sulumba are separated by two goals with two matches to wind up the season.
Babatunde is leading the race with 17 goals, two ahead of Sulumba. Last season, Bullets midfielder Chimwemwe Idana was named player of the season whereas Richard Chimbamba won the best goalkeeper award. Nickson Mwase of Silver Strikers was named defender of the season.
Bullets have already defended the TNM Super League for the fourth consecutive year, making it 16 overall titles, with two matches to spare. They have 67 points from 28 matches, eight points above second-placed Blue Eagles.
