Africa-Press – Malawi. OUTSTANDING— Temwa reactsUS-based Malawian striker Temwa Chawinga continues to hog the light as she is one goal away from writing another piece of history for her club, Kansas City Current.

This comes after she scored in Kansas’ 2-0 victory over Racing Louisville FC in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) at Lynn Family Stadium Sunday.

Temwa has taken her goal tally to nine in the current campaign.

It was Temwa’s 29th career goal for Kansas since she joined the club in 2024.

“She is just one goal away from becoming the first Current player to score 30 NWSL regular season goals and would become the 15th player to do so for a single club,” Kansas FC website reported.

The Malawian is currently second on the scorers’ chart, one goal behind leading goal scorer Esther Gonzalez of Gotham FC.

In an interview from her US base, Temwa said she was excited with her exploits.

“I am really happy to continue scoring goals. I want to help the team win titles,” she said.

The Scorchers’ forward broke the deadlock in the 65th minute before Ball sealed the victory.

The Malawian, who moved to the US after four years in China, smashed several records in the NWSL last season.

She became the first player to score 20 goals in a single regular season.

Temwa was also named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in her debut season.

On top of that, Temwa scored against all the 13 teams in the NWSL.
