Africa-Press – Malawi. The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has categorically denied reports alleging that it intends to change its presidential candidate or running mate ahead of the September 16 General Elections.

In a statement issued by party spokesperson, Shadric Namalomba, the DPP branded the claims as false, deceptive and intended to mislead the public.

“We want to make it crystal clear that Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is the DPP’s presidential candidate and has already made a firm and final decision to choose Justice Dr.Jane Ansah SC as his running mate,” said Namalomba.

He further emphasised that the decision is final, binding and enjoys full backing of the party’s leadership, members and alliance partners.

Namalomba said: “There are no discussions or intentions to replace Justice Dr.Jane Ansah SC. These false narratives are part of a broader scheme to mislead the public.”

Namalomba was responding to an article published by an online publication, Nyasa Times, which alleges that the DPP was planning to replace Mutharika with Ansah as the presidential candidate and Michael Usi as her running mate.
