Africa-Press – Malawi. Reverend Lazarus Chakwera is settling a bad example of a leader appetite for trips, functions even if are not worthy attending. Two years in power, Chakwera has never stay three days or a week in office without hearing that he is travelling to so, so places; local and abroad.
Now, is heading to Washington in America for US-Africa Leaders Summit. Despite numerous calls to reduce his petty trips, Reverend Lazarus has always justified any tour without remorse on how much resources are being used while Malawi health system is in crisis; lack of essential drugs.
Despite overspending on petty trips, unreasonable and puppet donor community keep on praising him with financial support when they know we have luxurious leader.
In this US trip, he justified saying leaders Summit will help promote trade and investment among the African countries apart from becoming self reliant.
Chakwera added that Malawi will benefit from the summit in many ways including helping Malawi identify and unlock new trading partners that will assist Malawi realise its development goals.
While in Washington DC, Chakwera along side his wife Monica join several African leaders invited by American President Joe Biden to discuss mechanisms of boosting trade and investment links between the USA and Africa.
Malawians made a mistake by giving power to someone who has personal interests than of the nations. With these unnecessarily trips, Malawi Parliament was forced to increase budget allocations without proper check just to feed Chakwera and his family instead of Public health facilities.
Chakwera has made many international trips but how has the nation benefited apart from speeches? We taxpayers, we are tired and sick keep on footing bills on petty trips that could have attended by cabinet minister, aids and among others.
Unfortunately, Malawi is under the leadership that always think of spending than investing. We will keep crying till next election to remove greedy leaders for better Malawi.
