YONECO says some female teachers sexually abusing learners

Africa-Press – Malawi. YouthNet and Counselling (YONECO) says it is concerned with the conduct of some female teachers who sexually abuse male learners. The organisation has given an example of a 26-year-old teacher at Kaphuka in Dedza who sexually abused a 17-year-old learner at her school in Dedza.

YONECO official Sewethe Mawhayo revealed this in Dedza recently, saying that the woman is now pregnant. According to Mawhayo, after becoming pregnant, the teacher escaped together with the teenager and they went to Blantyre where they are staying as a married couple. Meanwhile, Mawhayo has said YONECO will make follow ups on the issue to ensure that the teacher is prosecuted and that there is justice on the issue.
