Protest against failure to provide surgical report

Africa-Press – Mauritius. Rubis E., a 68-year-old woman, says she can no longer endure days dominated by constant pain. Her ordeal began after spinal surgery in November 2023, following a severe fall. The operation was performed by her attending physician at a private clinic in Curepipe, Mauritius.

Since then, her health has significantly deteriorated. Rubis claims she repeatedly requested a detailed medical report of the procedure, but her request—and a similar one made by a physician from the National Social Security Fund—was denied. “Why won’t they give it to me? I’m in pain and I need to know what happened,” she said.

Two years later, the pain shows no sign of subsiding. “I was operated on November 17, and ever since, I’ve been bedridden and suffering terribly,” she explained, holding back tears.

Recalling the day of her surgery, Rubis said she received no follow-up information afterward. “Immediately after the operation, I was placed in the ICU,” she stated. Soon after, she began treatment with Osteotide, a costly injectable medication. Due to its high price, she was eventually forced to stop the treatment.

Now, in order to be evaluated by a medical board—as required under Social Security protocols—Rubis is demanding access to her surgical medical report, which remains withheld.
