Africa-Press – Mauritius. An information session on the Hubert Curien Partnership (PHC Le Réduit) 2026 was held yesterday at the Mauritius Institute of Education in Réduit, in the presence of the Minister of Tertiary Education, Science and Research, Dr Kaviraj Sukon.
Representatives of the French Embassy in Mauritius, academics and researchers, as well as other personalities also attended the event.
The aim of this information session is to enable researchers and academics to better understand the PHC Le Réduit, which constitutes a privileged instrument of bilateral scientific cooperation between the Republic of Mauritius and the French Republic.
In his address Minister Sukon urged Mauritian academics and researchers to come up, in collaboration with their French counterparts, with some meaningful projects which will have a positive impact on society. He exhorted potential participants to opt for teamwork instead of working in silos, and avail of the facilities put at their disposal through the PHC Le Réduit.
The Minister further pointed out that all areas of research are eligible. However, priority will be given to projects in the following disciplines: applied sciences; human health; veterinary and agricultural sciences; biology and biotechnology; pharmaceutical research and industry; art and heritage; humanities and social sciences; French language teaching; and digitisation and emerging technologies in education, he said.
The PHC Le Réduit initiative is in line with the objectives of the Government of transforming the island into a knowledge hub by allowing Mauritian researchers to team up with the international scientific community through innovative research projects of strategic importance for the country.
In a bid to promote scientific cooperation and researcher mobility between France and Mauritius, the PHC Le Réduit launched its sixth call for projects 2026/2027. The deadline for submitting applications is 13 March 2026.
Initially launched in 1976 and named after physicist Hubert Curien (1924-2005) since 2007, PHC is a key instrument of cooperation between France and its partners. These bilateral programmes fund the mobility of researchers working on joint projects, co-financed with the partner country.
