Africa-Press – Mauritius. AFCON 2025 got off to a perfect start for Algeria, who comfortably defeated Sudan 3-0 on Wednesday in their opening Group E match. From the first minutes, the Fennecs imposed their rhythm, controlled possession and showed clear attacking intent, confirming their status as one of the tournament’s strong contenders.

Algeria struck almost immediately. In the 2nd minute, a swift attacking move saw Mohamed Amine Amoura combine with Hicham Boudaoui before Riyad Mahrez curled a superb shot into the net to open the scoring. Vladimir Petkovic’s side continued to dictate play and create chances, while Sudan’s task became even harder after Adil received a red card for a dangerous challenge on Rayan Aït-Nouri before halftime.

After the break, Algeria maintained pressure and patience. Mahrez doubled the lead in the 61st minute after another well-worked team move orchestrated by Amoura, before the Fennecs sealed the result late on. In the 86th minute, a Hadj Moussa cross found Baghdad Bounedjah, who set up Maza for the third goal. A convincing AFCON 2025 opener that puts Algeria in a strong position ahead of their next clash against Burkina Faso.
