Africa-Press – Mauritius. Chelsea defeated a determined Palmeiras team 2-1 in the Club World Cup quarterfinals on Friday thanks to an own goal from Weverton in the 83rd minute after a deflected Malo Gusto pass.

Cole Palmer’s goal in the 16th minute gave Chelsea a one-goal lead going into halftime, but Chelsea mishandled their finishing and controlled the first half.

Estevao, a teenage winger who will soon join Chelsea, equalised in the 53rd minute with a spectacular shot from a tight angle as Palmeiras stormed back after halftime.

Weverton was wrongfooted by Gusto’s attempted cross seven minutes from time, which bounced off his back and into the net after deflecting off defender Bruno Fuchs.

Chelsea will now play Fluminense, another Brazilian team, in Tuesday’s semi-finals in New York.
