Africa-Press – Mauritius. Emirates this week reaffirmed the airline’s commitment to Mauritius at a dinner reception held on the occasion of its 20-year anniversary of operations in the island nation.
The event took place at the Labourdonnais Waterfront Hotel in the presence of the Honourable Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, Prime Minister of Mauritius, and Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates, A word from the airline Clark stated the following about the commitment:
“We are proud to support Mauritius’ economy and tourism agenda, by helping to bring visitors from all continents to the island, and with the pandemic crisis behind us, I believe the future is bright for Mauritius and Emirates”
The airline started operations in Mauritius in September 2002 with three weekly flights, which has steadily increased and now operates twice daily with a mix of the Airbus A380.
Flights operate directly from Dubai International Airport (DXB) to Mauritius Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU). Emirates has recently announced plans to increase frequencies to the nation starting October 1, following the introduction of double-daily flights.
An additional evening frequency, which will operate until January 31, 2023, is being introduced to meet increased travel demand to and from Mauritius and will increase connectivity to the region. The third service will be offered onboard the airlines Boeing 777.
The third-daily flight will increase much-needed capacity to and from Mauritius by approximately 35%, catering to the demand and providing an added lifeline to the tourism industry during one of the busiest travel seasons.

Since 2002, the airline has transported more than 6.5 million passengers between Mauritius and Dubai, contributing to the growth of the country’s tourism sector.
Since commencing services to Mauritius, 20 years ago, Emirates, with its iconic A380 double-decker, has transported tourists to Mauritius from across its extensive global network and contributed to the progress of the tourism industry on the island, making it a popular vacation destination.
The renowned customer experience offered by the airline, as well as the frequency of its services, have contributed to the steady growth in the number of visitors to Mauritius since commencing direct services.
Major international destinations and origin points for travelers traveling to Mauritius include the UK cities of London, Manchester, Birmingham, and Glasgow, as well as European cities including Paris, Geneva, Frankfurt, Milan, Munich, Moscow, Vienna, Zürich, and Rome.

Emirates President Tim Clark, while in Mauritius, also celebrated the official opening of the Emirates Airline Swimming Pool and Sports Complex in Phoenix, in the presence of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius and other local dignitaries.
