Africa-Press – Mauritius. As soon as less than two months away, the UAE-based airline will service Mauritius from its hub – Dubai International Airport – three times a day, an increase of one flight.
The increase is the result of the UAE carrier noticing high demand for the island destination. The East African country is a popular destination known for its beaches, lagoons and reefs.
It’s unique, too, as the only country in Africa where Hinduism is the most practised religion. It is also a major tourist destination – its tourism sector is the 4th contributor to the island nation’s economy. In 2019, the island welcomed 1,450,000 tourists – an impressive 3.6% increase compared to the previous year. Emirates will utilise Boeing 777s
Emirates’ new additional service will be operated by a Boeing 777-300ER, while the other two are served by the A380.
Flight time to and from Mauritius is 6 hours and 35 minutes, and the first flight from Dubai International is scheduled to depart on 1st October at 22:10 local time, while the first flight from Mauritius back to Dubai is scheduled to depart on 2nd October at 6:30 local time.
When the latest flight to Mauritius joins the preexisting two daily flights, it will join 23 other Emirates routes with three daily flights or more. Currently, only Emirates and Saudia (the Jeddah-based flag carrier of Saudi Arabia) operate services from the Middle East to Mauritius. Saudia offers three flights a week from Jeddah to the East African country (with its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners) and has done so since September 2017.
Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways have opted not to provide connections to the island country.
