Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Frangipane, which is a drug treatment and rehabilitation Centre located at the Brown Sequard Mental Health Care in Beau Bassin has been extended to provide additional support to drug victims.

A ceremony was held, this afternoon, in presence of the Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Kailesh Kumar Singh Jagutpal, the Parliamentary Private Secretary, Dr Marie Christiane Dorine Chukowry, and other personalities to mark the extension of this facility which aims to offer support services and different recreational activities to more victims of drug abuse.

In a statement, the Health Minister pointed out that the event was organised in the context of activities for the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, observed on 26 June.

The extension of the facility, he mentioned, is in line with various governmental measures to cater to victims of drug addiction while adding that it will henceforth provide services to an additional ten patients.

Highlighting the importance of extending the Frangipane Centre, Minister Jagutpal stated that more victims will benefit from psychological and social support, enabling them get rid of their addiction so as they can re-integrate the society.

He also spoke of initiatives of the Ministry in terms of drug prevention and treatment for victims of drug addiction while indicating that the Drug Users Administrative Panel will monitor the progress of the drug user during the period of rehabilitation and will assist the drug user to overcome their addiction.

Minister Jagutpal recalled that the Frangipane Centre inaugurated in June 2021, forms part of several Centres which have been set up to providing residential detoxification, rehabilitation, inpatient, outpatient and day care as well as after care services to prevent any relapse.
