Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Ministry of Health and Wellness has activated its Maha Shivaratree Festival Action Plan to cover 24-hour medical assistance at Ganga Talao during the festival period up to Sunday 19 February 2023.
The medical posts set up by the Ministry in the vicinity of Grand Bassin, namely: La Marie Community Centre in Plaine Sophie and; La Flora medical post in the Avalon Parking Area, are open daily from 8 am to 6 pm and will remain open until 18 February 2023.
All the medical posts will provide ambulance services as well. As regards the northern region, a medical team has been posted at the Hindu House in Cassis and at Arul Migou Sockalingum Meenatchee Ammen Tirukkovil (Kaylassum) from Wednesday 15 February 2023 to Friday 17 February 2023 from 8 am to 4 pm Furthermore, the Ministry of Health and Wellness is providing SAMU services round the clock till Sunday 19th February 2023 at Ganga Talao.
One fully equipped SAMU ambulance and one mobile caravan have been posted at Ganga Talao and SAMU ambulances are on the alert to attend to any emergency in each Regional Hospital while Riders have been posted at various Police posts to attend to any traffic emergencies; act as escorts to Emergency Services Vehicles.
Additional medical assistance and foot care facilities are also being provided to pilgrims by the Cardiac Centre till Friday 17 February 2023. The Ministry has ensured that public health safety is respected through measures including larviciding; indoor spraying of all buildings; rodent control activities; disinfection; supervision of maintenance of toilets and mobile toilets and; meeting with food handlers for sensitisation and food hygiene.
Water samples have also been taken from all water tanks at Ganga Talao for bacteriological analysis and sensitisation campaigns are regularly being held on major health issues and precautions to be taken by pilgrims, especially for those suffering from chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases on MBC TV, radios, in the press and on social media.
