Africa-Press – Mauritius. Mrs Sahra Ramkoleea, born on 28 December 1925, celebrated her 100th birthday, yesterday, at Sir Anerood Jugnauth Recreation Centre, in Riambel. The Minister of Land Transport and Acting Minister of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity, Mr Mahomed Osman Cassam Mahomed; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Dhananjay Ramful; Members of the Parliament; family members and close friends were present.

To mark the occasion the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity presented to Mrs Ramkoleea a cheque of Rs 26,203; a cookware set; a bouquet of flower; the centenarian medal; and a certificate. She also received a handsfree telephone from Mauritius Telecom. Additionally, the National Solidarity Fund awarded her a cheque of Rs 10,000. The Senior Citizen Council also expressed their admiration with a gift set.

Born in in L’Escalier, Mrs Ramkoleea never attended school. She got married at age of 16 years and went to live in Mare D’Albert. Her late husband was a labourer, and she helped in the fields. She is mother of three sons and one daughter and has eight grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren.

Mrs Ramkoleea enjoys a simple life, relishes both vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals. She enjoys a good health. She sees well, has a slight hearing impairment, walks with a frame and at times she moves around in wheelchair.

Mrs Ramkoleea dedicates her longevity to her healthy lifestyle, faith in God, and the love, affection and attention from her family members.
