Africa-Press – Mauritius. The 6.5km alignment of phase 2C of the Metro Express project which will connect Phoenix to Curepipe is around 98% completed.
A series of testing and trial runs along the route are being conducted to ensure the operation readiness of the light rail along the alignment, stated the Chief Executive Officer of Metro Express Limited (MEL), Mr Das Mootanah.
He was speaking on 16 September 2022 during a trial run from Phoenix station to the Curepipe station in the presence of the International Consultant of SMRT, Mr Lui Wai Meng; the Project Director of CAF, Mr Ander Montes; the Chief Operations of MEL, Mr Parama Naidoo; and the Chief Maintenance of MEL, Mr Mooroogen Chinapen.
Mr Mootanah indicated that the operations and maintenance team from MEL, RITES, Larsen and Toubro, and CAF with oversight from SMRT, are testing the entire system, the overhead lines and also all the software to ensure that everything is well integrated with the entire rail line between Port Louis and Curepipe.
Presently, SMRT is conducting an independent safety audit, he added.
The aim of carrying the trial runs, he underlined, is to validate the Standard Operating Procedure and the Operational safety, which ensures that the entire network is ready for commercial service.
As for phase 3 of the project, from Rose-Hill to Réduit, it will be completed before the end of this year, he said.
For his part, Mr Lui Wai Meng, said that the independent safety assessment is one of the best practices in the world to test the operationalisation and engineering of a transit system.
It ensures that the alignment meets the legal and regulatory standards that relate to safety, he pointed out.
