Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Darsanand Balgobin, chaired the first meeting of the National Cybersecurity Committee, yesterday, in the presence of the newly appointed chairperson, Dr Viv Padayatchy, at the seat of the Ministry in Ebène.
In a statement following the meeting, Dr Padayatchy recalled that the National Cybersecurity Committee was established as per Section 3 of the Cybersecurity and Cybercrime Act 2021. It has as objectives to advise the Government on cybersecurity and cybercrime matters, implement policies and establish cybersecurity best practices and standards for critical information infrastructures.
“The vision is to enhance cyber threat preparedness of Mauritius and managing disturbances caused by these threats and information security into the basic structures of our information society”, he underlined.
Dr Padayatchy indicated that the Committee comprises representatives from the Bank of Mauritius, Financial Services Commission, Computer Emergency Response Team of Mauritius, and the private sector, who have experience in the field of cybersecurity and cybercrime. The public and private partnership will reinforce collaboration in the prevention and mitigation of cyber security threats and ensure implementation of the strategy, he added.
