Africa-Press – Mauritius. The National Land Transport Authority (NLTA) Disciplinary Committee has been set up to listen to any disciplinary proceedings against holders of a licence or permit issued by the NLTA and make recommendations to the Chief National Transport Commissioner, who will then either issue a warning, suspend or revoke the licence. This aims at offering a better service to the population.
The Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Alan Ganoo, made this statement, this afternoon, following a meeting he had with Members of the NLTA Disciplinary Committee in Port Louis.
Minister Ganoo highlighted that the NLTA Disciplinary Committee was set up by Government under the National Land Transport Authority Act and consists of a Chairperson, a Vice-Chairperson and four members. These four Members, he emphasised, are retired public officers who have experience or knowledge in public administration, law enforcement, finance, transport or any other related fields.
The Minister observed that since the enactment of the National Land Transport Authority Act in 2019, it was high time for the parent Ministry and the NLTA to set up a Disciplinary Committee so as to better protect commuters. As such, relevant authorities now have a means to sanction any licensee who has breached the law, he underlined.
Furthermore, Minister Ganoo underscored that a similar committee has been set up in Rodrigues. He added that any licensee found guilty of breaching the law will have the right to be represented by a lawyer.
Members of the NLTA Disciplinary Committee in Mauritius are as follows: Nutanesh Ramasawmy (Chairperson); Mohammad Zaki Ramtoolah (Vice-Chairperson); Pritibala Sewgobind-Aujeet (Member); Santaram Ragoobar (Member); Hemant Kumar Dussoye (Member); and Bandeenee Sibdoyal (Member).
