Opposition Alliance: already an agreement on the five years of "prime ministership" at the PTr

Africa-Press – Mauritius. The leader of the Mauritian Militant Movement (MMM), Paul Bérenger, shortly after meeting Navin Ramgoolam and Xavier Duval on Friday January 6, indicated that there will soon be developments regarding an opposition alliance. He shared some information with members of the political bureau on Monday afternoon.

If there is one thing confirmed, it is that there is an agreement, at least verbal for the moment, on the prime ministership for the five years after an eventual victory of this alliance which will be ensured by the Labor Party.

It is the PTr who will decide whether there should be a sharing of this position, because neither the PMSD nor the MMM want to interfere in the affairs of the Reds.

On the other hand, discussions will have to continue about the sharing of tickets. If at first, the PTr would have demanded 35 tickets, it seems that there is a concession on the part of Labor to obtain only 33.

On the other hand, another development was mentioned. This is the post of President of the Republic. The leader of the PMSD, Xavier Duval, we learned, would have expressed the wish to occupy this position.

If this eventuality is confirmed, it is probably the MMM which will have one of its members as vice-president. In this case, one of its Deputy Leaders, Ajay Gunness, could be chosen.

Nevertheless, all these questions will be the subject of discussions during the next meetings between the three leaders and the next one will take place at the beginning of February, when Xavier Duval returns to the country.

Moreover, nothing has yet been decided about the Rassemblement Mauricien (RM). If, in October, Nando Bodha would have confided to Paul Bérenger that he did not wish to be part of an alliance with the PTr, on the other hand, a fortnight ago, he would have said he was ready.

He is following the discussions closely and will announce his final decision afterwards. On the side of the Militant Socialist Movement (MSM), we closely follow what is happening at the level of the opposition.

According to a source, the townspeople could be called to the polls in March, just after the celebration of Independence Day. Because for the MSM, if its candidates win a few districts in the cities, it will be considered a victory, especially since the party is sure to win a majority of the seats in the rural constituencies.
