Africa-Press – Mauritius. A total of 136 Officers from the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity; the National Empowerment Foundation; and, Statistics Mauritius, were awarded certificates today in Port-Louis, for having successfully completed a training course in Monitoring and Evaluation and Case Management and Multidimensional Poverty.
The Minister of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity, Mrs Fazila Jeewa-Daureeawoo, the Project Manager (Improvement of social protection system) at Expertise France, Mr Christian Moutier, and several other personalities were present during the certificate award ceremony.
The training, an initiative of the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and Expertise France, was facilitated by local and international consultants and experts.
In her address, Minister Jeewa-Daureeawoo highlighted that Government places humans at the centre of development and is mobilising all necessary resources to reduce poverty and empower those at the bottom of the social ladder.
Speaking on the Marshall Plan and its poverty alleviation and empowerment programmes, the Minister stressed that Government’s aim is to ensure that vulnerable families stand on their own two feet.
She dwelt on several measures that have been put in place for those under the Social Register of Mauritius (SRM) to enhance their quality of life. Alleviating poverty is one among the top priorities of Government, she said, and all stakeholders should join hands and step up efforts in this endeavour.
She expressed gratitude to the AFD and Expertise France for their support and technical assistance in enhancing the capacity of Officers to better respond to the needs of citizens.
As regards the training, Minister Jeewa-Daureeawoo indicated that Officers will be better equipped to take stock of the progress made by those on the social register, identify bottlenecks and come up with appropriate recommendations.
Data collection and analysis is integral to planning future strategies as regards poverty reduction especially in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia and Ukraine War, she added.
As for Mr Moutier, he spoke of the ongoing collaboration between Mauritius and France. He also lauded the synergy between local and international experts of Expertise France who are working together on reinforcing capacity of Officers and contributing to alleviate poverty.
