Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs of India, Shri V. Muraleedharan, in his capacity as the Special Representative of the Prime Minister of the Republic of India, called on the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, this morning, at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis.
In a statement, Minister Muraleedharan highlighted that the meeting with Prime Minister Jugnauth was cordial and was an opportunity for both sides to discuss the good Mauritius-India bilateral relation, which has strengthened in the modern era.
He also emphasised that both countries have been collaborating in several fields, namely, trade, economy, and investment. Shri Muraleedharan is on an official visit in the country on 01 and 02 November 2023, to participate as Special Guest in the commemoration of the 189th Anniversary of the Arrival of Indentured Labourers in Mauritius.
During his stay, the Minister of State will also attend the inauguration ceremonies of various projects which have been realised with the assistance of the Indian Government, namely: launching of Stamps and Souvenir Sheet for the 75th Anniversary of Mauritius-India Diplomatic Relations; unveiling of the Inauguration plate of the L’Esperance Mini Soccer Pitch; and inauguration of the 8 Mw Solar PV Farm Project at Henrietta.
It is recalled that Shri Muraleedharan was elected in April 2018 to the Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra. In June 2018, he was nominated as Member to the Standing Committee on External Affairs and was also appointed as a Member to the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Railways.
Later in December 2018, he was appointed as a Member of the Committee on Rules. He was sworn-in as a Union Minister of State on 30 May 2019 by the President of the Republic of India and officially took charge as Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs on 31 May 2019.
