Africa-Press – Mauritius. Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam is scheduled to return to Mauritius today after an intense and productive eight-day visit to India. In a statement to the Indian parliamentary television, he emphasized that Mauritius remains a steadfast friend of India. Ramgoolam expressed gratitude to the Indian people and assured them that Mauritius is a constant and reliable ally, not a wavering one, highlighting the mutual support between the two nations.
Due to Mauritius’s current economic situation, Ramgoolam announced that the proposed project to construct a new building for the Mauritian Parliament, as suggested by Narendra Modi, will not proceed at this time. He expressed admiration for the new Indian Parliament building and thanked his hosts during his visit to the Lok Sabha premises.
The Prime Minister acknowledged India as the world’s largest democracy and noted that although Mauritius is much smaller, it is also a democracy. He spoke about strengthening the bonds between democracies and underscored the importance of this relationship.
In his closing message, Ramgoolam thanked the Indian government for the warm reception extended to him and the official delegation. Reiterating his earlier point, he stressed that Mauritius will always stand by India, just as India has consistently supported Mauritius.
On his final day in India, Ramgoolam met with the President of India, Drupadi Murmu, and the new Vice President, Radhakrishnan. He also held discussions with opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. Additionally, he paid tribute by laying wreaths at Rajghat to honor Mahatma Gandhi and at Sadaiv Atal in memory of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
