Swearing-in ceremony of President of the Equal Opportunities Tribunal

Africa-Press – Mauritius. Mrs Sulakshna Beekarry-Sunassee has taken Oath of Office for the President of the Equal Opportunities Tribunal, today, before the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun at the State House in Réduit.
In a statement following the ceremony, Mrs Bekarry-Sunassee highlighted that she has taken-up the duties of the President of the Equal Opportunities Tribunal on a part-time basis. This post, she indicated, is one which bears great responsibilities as it relates to human rights.
She further indicated that any person who feels aggrieved at his/her workplace because of his/her age, gender, or for any other reason; or who feels that he/she has not had equal opportunities as compared to other people in a recruitment exercise, among other things, can file a complaint to the Equal Opportunities Commission.
The Equal Opportunities Tribunal may then be called upon to determine whether a person’s rights were not respected or if the person has been treated in a discriminatory way, she added.
Mrs Bekarry-Sunassee expressed hope to live up to the task that has been entrusted upon her.
