Tribunal Orders Bank of Mauritius to Recognize Union

Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Employment Relations Tribunal ruled in favor of the Bank of Mauritius Employees Union (BOMEU), ordering the Central Bank to officially recognize the union as the sole authorized representative for negotiations with management.

This decision ends several months of a standoff over union recognition and marks a turning point in labor relations within the institution. Unionist Narendranath Gopee has requested a meeting with the Governor of the Bank of Mauritius to discuss steps for the reinstatement of Chid Rughoobur.

For reference, Chidanand Rughoobur, president of the Bank of Mauritius Employees Union, was suspended from his duties on August 25. Chidanand Rughoobur was subject to a provisional charge of rogue and vagabond.

He claims to have informed the Bank of Mauritius of this situation, while stating he does not understand why this accusation was used as grounds for his suspension.
