Trinidad and Tobago High Commissioner presents credentials to President Roopun

Africa-Press – Mauritius. The High Commissioner-designate of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to Mauritius with residence in Pretoria, Dr Lovell Macio Michael Francis, presented his credentials today, to the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, at the State House in Réduit.

In a statement, Dr Francis recalled that Mauritius and, Trinidad and Tobago share a long history of collaboration as both countries were part of the African, Caribbean and Pacific group of nations and have worked together in the sugar sector.

He highlighted that several areas of collaboration will be explored between the two countries including the sectors of tourism, energy and education as well as the cultural field.

According to him, in the wake of climate change, the Covid-19, and the Russia and Ukraine war, it is essential for Small Islands Developing States to collaborate closely to face these challenges.

High Commissioner Francis further indicated that Mauritius is a tourist-oriented country similar to Tobago and that both countries can team up to further promote the tourism sector. The two counterparts, he said, should join forces to strengthen their economy and develop mutually for the welfare of the citizens.
