The Vice-Prime Minister (VPM), Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, inaugurated, this afternoon, the Polytechnics Mauritius Rose Belle Campus which is located in the Landscope Mauritius Building in Rose Belle. The Minister of Financial Services and Good Governance, Mr Mahen Kumar Seeruttun, the Chief Government Whip, Mrs Naveena Ramyad, the Parliamentary Private Secretary, Mrs Teenah Jutton, the Chief Executive Officer of Polytechnics Mauritius Ltd (PML), Mr Yamal Matabudul, and other personalities were present at the inauguration ceremony. In her address, VPM Dookun-Luchoomun highlighted that PML is the first tertiary institution to establish a campus in the south region of the island. This, she pointed out, is in line with Government’s vision to provide quality education to all youth islandwide, especially in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector. The Vice-Prime Minister stressed that, nowadays, much of the work traditionally carried out by human beings are being carried out by machines and there is thus a need to make space for new pathways for our youth. She underscored that courses at PML will definitely contribute to produce work-ready diploma holders of high quality to spearhead the development of the country into a knowledge-based and skills driven economy. Furthermore, she seized this opportunity to commend PML for having already registered some 3,500 students since its creation five years ago and reiterated her Ministry’s support in PML’s future endeavours. As for Minister Seeruttun, he underlined that PML’s new campus is in line with Government’s vision to transform Mauritius into a learning hub.
