Africa-Press – Mauritius. A one-day workshop pertaining to the Solar Power Kit Allocation to Regional Committees affiliated with the National Women’s Council, under the Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMA) project, was held at Voilà Hotel in Bagatelle, today.

The initiative, a joint collaboration of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the National Women’s Council, the Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change, and the Central Electricity Board (CEB), has been elaborated following the 16th Meeting of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

There, it was agreed that developing countries would take NAMA for promoting sustainable development supported and enabled by technology, financing, and capacity-building. The aim is to achieve a deviation in emissions relative to ‘business as usual’ emissions in 2020.

The project is also in line with Government’s programme 2020-2024, in pursuing efforts to make Mauritius a cleaner and greener country in the context of meaningful ecological transition. Through this innovative project, the National Women’s Council is collaborating with the UNDP and the CEB to contribute to the empowerment of women.
