Africa-Press – Mozambique. German company Muhlbauer is the new provider of biometric driving licences in Mozambique. The group, which has been selected by public tender, will replace Brithol Michcoma, which suspended services due to a debt of 40 million meticais (around US$626,533 at current exchange rates).

For five months – since December of last year – no biometric driving licences have been printed in Mozambique, but the problem might be nearing resolution.

The Procurement Management and Execution Unit at the Instituto Nacional de Transportes Rodoviários (INATRO) announced, through an award notice, that the company Muhlbauer High Tech Internacional had won the public tender launched on 22 January, and will be the new provider of the production, printing and delivery service of the biometric driving licence.

This is the same group that, in 2017, won the public tender for the production of identity cards.

Muhlbauer will replace Brithol Michcoma, which had been providing the services but suspended provision when the amount it was owed rose to 40 million meticais, its contract having failed to acquire the essential Administrative Tribunal endorsement.

Meanwhile, the new provider is preparing to take on the responsibility of producing and printing driver’s licences while Brithol still remains paid.

According to what ‘O País’ learned from a source close to the process, Brithol intends to take the state to court for payment of services provided.
