Africa-Press – Mozambique. The United States of America on Wednesday expressed interest in deepening economic cooperation with Mozambique for a “bright future,” as the two countries celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations.

“I just had an excellent meeting with President Chapo, President of the Republic, where we discussed 50 years of relations between the United States of America and Mozambique, and we also discussed the future. This future is a bright future, and we will focus on the economic aspect,” said Abigail Dressel, Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Mozambique, after meeting President Daniel Chapo in Maputo.

According to the representative, the new phase of cooperation will focus on “bringing prosperity” to the people of both countries and encouraging more US companies to do business in Mozambique.

“We will also work together on security – a fundamental aspect of commercial diplomacy – security and good governance,” Abigail Dressel explained, affirming that the meeting created the conditions for “even better” cooperation in the future.

In June, the US pledged to maintain and strengthen bilateral relations, highlighting Mozambique’s economic progress and its potential to attract foreign investment.

The commitment was made during a meeting between Mozambique’s Minister of Economy, Basílio Muhate, and the head of the US Government Delegation, Troy Fitrell, on the sidelines of the 17th US-Africa Business Summit. The meeting discussed diplomatic and trade relations between the two countries, with a focus on the tariffs recently imposed by Washington and the implementation of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
