Africa-Press – Mozambique. The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) is proud to assist the National Technical Dialogue Commission (COTE) by facilitating the integration of best practices, designing robust methodology, providing essential equipment, promoting gender inclusion, supporting communication and transparency strategies, and delivering ongoing technical support throughout the process.

The launch of national dialogue that took place on 10/09/25 marks an important milestone in the country’s journey towards strengthening peace, reconciliation, and national unity through an inclusive and participatory process.

The establishment of the COTE and the initiation of public hearings represent a significant opportunity to foster mutual understanding, resolve disputes, and consolidate peace in Mozambique.

Speaking at the launch, President Chapo underlined the vital role of international partners:

“Your support, materialized through the UNDP, has been fundamental in ensuring that the National and Inclusive Dialogue progresses on solid and credible foundations at the regional, continental, and international levels. Your constant presence, technical advice, and willingness to walk side by side with Mozambique reflect a deep commitment to the universal values of peace, democracy, human rights, sustainable development, transparency, inclusion, human dignity, strengthening democracy, good governance, and development.”

UNDP’s support to the process is technical and advisory in nature, ensuring full respect for the Commission’s autonomy, independence, and Mozambique’s sovereignty. UNDP is contributing to strengthening COTE’s institutional and operational capacities by integrating international best practices, advising on robust methodologies, and promoting communication and transparency.

Edo Stork, UNDP Resident Representative in Mozambique, praised the inclusive composition of COTE and underlined the importance of this process:

“The Inclusive National Dialogue is a landmark for Mozambique’s democratic journey. The diverse composition of COTE is an encouraging reflection of the inclusivity that lies at the heart of this process, ensuring that Mozambican citizens from all walks of life are represented and heard. Across the globe, UNDP has supported similar dialogue processes by bringing international best practices, technical expertise, and advisory support strengthen their nations and their social contract. In Mozambique, we remain committed to walking this journey together, ensuring the Dialogue reflects the aspirations of the people and lays the foundations for lasting peace, stability, prosperity, and social cohesion.”

UNDP has already provided funds in our partnership with COTE, ensuring that the Dialogue can advance on solid and credible foundations.
