Africa-Press – Mozambique. Rovuma University, based in the northern Mozambican city of Nampula, has announced the dismissal of 10 lecturers for alleged involvement in sexual harassment of students at the Higher Institute of Natural Resources and Environment in Montepuez, in Cabo Delgado province.
According to a statement, signed by the university Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mário Brito dos Santos, the investigation report shows evidence of corruption cases and sexual harassment on the part of these lecturers. However, the document does not mention the names of those involved in the scandal.
“These practices are contrary to the university’s statutes and that is why the Vice-Chancellor has taken this measure to preserve the integrity of the academic and administrative processes during the exams”, reads the note.
The investigation was carried out by the institution after male students denounced various cases, involving lecturers.
Some students who have completed their courses at that higher education institution, most of them male, commented that the corrupt practices are long-standing, although in recent years they have become recurrent.
The document explains that the lecturers in question will have to give up the subjects they were assigned, “and these subjects will be taken over by lecturers from the Nampula and Niassa delegations, so as not to compromise the assessments.”
