Africa-Press – Mozambique. Giuseppe Frizzi: Biosofia e Biosfera Africana Macua Xirima”, a book containing texts by several authors on the life and work of Catholic priest Giuseppe Frizzi, a Consolatta missionary who lived and died in Niassa, is being launched at 4:00 p.m. this Wednesday in the auditorium of the BCI building in Maputo.
The launch will hear comments from Professor Brazão Mazula, a presentation of the authors’ message by Father Filipe Couto, and a message by writer Mia Couto on the theme, “Father Frizzi: Influences and Discoveries”.
Giuseppe Frizzi was a missionary of Italian origin who arrived in Mozambique in 1972, and there conducted research and effected translations and publications (biblical, catechisms, rituals, missal, biosophy and others) in Macua-Xirima, his favourite language. He promoted arts and culture, and created the Macua-Xirima Research Centre.
Father Frizzi published the “Xirima-Portuguese/Portuguese-Xirima Dictionary: Grammar and Literacy” (2005) and a bilingual anthology of Macua-Xirima biosophy, “Murima ni Ewani Exirima: Biosofia e Biosfera Xirima” in 2008.
In his pastoral work, he translated the adult and children’s catechisms and an Xirima Bible (2002) for Macua.
Giuseppe Frizzi lost his life in December 2021, after having dedicated 51 years of his life to the priesthood.
Coordination of “Giuseppe Frizzi: Biosophy and African Biosphere Macua Xirima” was undertaken by Celestino Vítor Mussomar in collaboration with Jorge Ferrão.
