CAF President Motsepe Confirms 2027 AFCON for East Africa

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that its position remains unchanged regarding the countries that will host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2027), with Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda continuing as the hosts of the continent’s premier football tournament.

Speaking to media outlets today, February 13 in Dar es Salaam during a CAF Executive Committee meeting, CAF President Patrice Motsepe stated that despite rumors circulating—particularly online—claiming that these countries are not ready to host the tournament, he remains confident that AFCON 2027 will be one of the most successful editions in the competition’s history.

Dr Motsepe highlighted that Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda have demonstrated significant capability in organizing the African Nations Championship (CHAN), and therefore, there is no reason to deny them the opportunity to host AFCON 2027.

“I have seen various media outlets claiming that I came to Tanzania to tell them they will not host AFCON. That is false. I have faith in these countries and I am proud of the work being done by football leaders in these three nations,” Motsepe said.

He added he deliberately chose to hold the CAF Executive Committee meeting in Tanzania to emphasise the federation’s commitment that AFCON 2027 must take place in East Africa.
