Africa-Press – Mozambique. The 2022/23 cashew nut marketing campaign could result in gross income of US$87 million.

The projection was made this Wednesday by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Olegário Banze, in Nassuruma, Meconta district, Nampula province, during the campaign launch at the cashew research centre there.

“For the 2022/2023 marketing year, which started today (Wednesday, 24-11), around 150,000 tons of cashew nuts were projected to be sold, which could represent an increase of around 3% compared to the last campaign,” Deputy Minister Banze said, quoted by AIM.

A kilogram of cashew nuts should sell for an average price of 37 meticais, according to the current recommended reference price agreed between stakeholders in the sector.

In the last campaign, Banze said, Mozambique sold more than 146,000 tonnes of cashew nuts, with producers, including 1.4 million family concerns, netting an average price of 39 meticais per kilo of nuts.
