Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambican President Daniel Chapo has challenged Mozambicans living in Spain to keep their national pride, patriotism and commitment to the country’s values and interests.

According to Chapo, who was speaking at a meeting on Sunday with the Mozambican community living in Spain, “we have to continue with this pride of being Mozambicans, being patriots, continuing to defend the national interest and that of the Mozambican people wherever we are, in any part of the world.”

Chapo began the first day of his visit to Spain, where he is attending the Fourth United Nations International Conference on Development Finance, taking place in Seville.

The President began his speech by highlighting Mozambique’s efforts to consolidate peace and stability. Sharing the main points of his speech on the 50th anniversary of independence, which took place on 25 June, he said “we have shown clearly and unequivocally, with evidence, with figures, that the country has achieved a great deal.”

However, despite the progress, Chapo acknowledged the persistent challenges facing Mozambique. “There are still many challenges that we have to continue working on, such as the issue of fighting corruption, which is an evil that affects and infects our society,” he said, adding that there are also concerns about transnational crimes such as money laundering and kidnapping, which have a negative impact on national development.

He also highlighted the central role of dialogue as an instrument of national inclusion, referring to the “Political Commitment for an Inclusive National Dialogue”, which was signed on 5 of March. “This process of dialogue did not end with the signing of the agreement, but is now continuing with the integration of all strata of Mozambican society”, he claimed.

For their part, the Mozambican community living in Spain expressed gratitude for the opportunity to meet with the President.

“Not only do we feel represented, but we know that our leaders are thinking of us. We recognize the efforts and progress made in Mozambique, even in the face of difficulties”, said one of the representatives.
