Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Mozambican president, Daniel Chapo, congratulated Geny Catamo on Saturday for Sporting’s second world championship, citing him as a reference for the new generation of talent and an “inspiring example for the youth” of Mozambique.
“On behalf of the Mozambican people and, in particular, the youth, I would like to congratulate the young Mozambican Geny Catamo, who became a two-time champion with Sporting Club de Portugal, an achievement that fills our entire country with pride,” President Chapo says in a statement from the Mozambican presidency.
On Saturday, Sporting secured the Portuguese football championship title with a 2-0 victory over Vitória de Guimarães, a moment celebrated by Portuguese and Mozambican fans in Maputo’s restaurants and bars.
For the Mozambican head of state, Geny Catamo is a reference for the new generation of talent from the country now achieving success in international sport, and whose rise is seen as a sign that investing in youth can generate “significant results” internationally.
“Congratulations, Geny Catamo (…). I take this opportunity to highlight not only your achievement, but also to encourage Mozambican youth to dream big, believe in their abilities and perseverance, just as our champion has done,” said Daniel Chapo.
The Mozambican president highlighted the player’s career as a “collective triumph”, which puts Mozambique on the map of European football and reinforces confidence in Mozambicans whose talents “shine beyond borders”.
