Africa-Press – Mozambique. Annual consumer price inflation in Mozambique accelerated again in November, for the second month in a row, rising to 5.36%, according to data released on Tuesday by the country’s National Statistics Institute (INE).

INE data indicate that Mozambique “recorded an increase in the general price level of around 5.36%, influenced by the divisions of education, food and non-alcoholic beverages, and alcoholic beverages and tobacco, respectively with year-on-year increases of 9.82%, 9.41% and 7.40%”.

In just the space of one month, prices in Mozambique rose 1.17%, influenced by the increase in costs of food and beverages.

Twelve-month inflation in Mozambique had fallen again in September to 4.63%, the sixth consecutive month of reduction in year-on-year inflation, and 0.30 percentage points lower than in August, falling at that time to the lows of January 2021, according to INE’s figures.

In October, inflation accelerated to 4.75%, and in November to 5.36%, in both cases compared to the same month in 2022.

According to INE data up to November, prices in Mozambique have risen 3.96% since the beginning of 2023, and the average monthly inflation over the last 12 months has fallen to 7.59%.
