Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Mozambican health authorities announced on Tuesday that a further 11 people have been diagnosed with the Covid-19 respiratory disease, bringing the total number of cases identified in Mozambique to 151,382,
According to a Tuesday press release from the Ministry of Health, since the start of the pandemic, 952,342 people have been tested for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, 1,388 of them in the previous 24 hours,
1,377 of the tests gave negative results. Of the 11 positive cases, six were women and five were men. Six (54.5 per cent) were from the northern province of Cabo Delgado, two were from Maputo city, and there was one case each in Nampula, Zambezia and Gaza.
The positivity rate (the percentage of people tested found to be carrying the virus) on Tuesday was 0.8 per cent. This compares with rates of 0.7 per cent on Monday, 0.1 per cent on Sunday, 1.1 per cent on Saturday, and 0.9 per cent on Friday.
Over the same 24 hour period, no Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospital, and no new cases were admitted. The number of people under medical care in the Covid-19 treatment facilities remained static at eight – six in Maputo City, one in Tete and one in Manica.
For the third consecutive day, no deaths from Covid-19 were reported. The Covid-19 death toll in Mozambique thus remains 1,934.
The Ministry press release also reported that a further 28 people had made a full recovery from Covid-19 (14 in Niassa, 11 in Maputo city and three in Inhambane). The total number of recoveries now stands at 149,349, or 98.6 per cent of all those ever diagnosed with Covid-19.
The number of active Covid-19 cases fell from 112 on Monday to 95 on Tuesday. The geographical distribution of the active cases was as follows: Cabo Delgado, 34; Maputo City, 29; Gaza, nine; Nampula, six; Zambezia, four; Tete, four; Niassa, three; Manica, three; Inhambane, two and Maputo province, one. Sofala remains the only province where there are no active Covid-19 cases.
The Ministry also reported that, in the previous 24 hours, 94,414 people had been vaccinated against Covid-19. 2,609,473 people have been fully vaccinated against the disease, while just short of five million (4,954,765) have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
