Africa-Press – Mozambique. Elephants on the rampage are creating panic in six villages in Pessene administrative post, Momba district, Maputo province, Radio Mozambique reported on Sunday (24-07).

This Sunday, three pachyderms were reported in the villages of Damu and Mahoxe, and were still in some of these places at the time of reporting.

The head of Pessene administrative post, Ofelia Mugabe, told Radio Mozambique that elephants had been circulating freely in the villages of Nwayimbela, Maguaza and Pessene B since last month.

Mugabe said that the authorities had told residents to remain in their homes and not to approach the animals.

The authorities are so far unaware of the elephants’ origin.
