Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambican artist Gilberto Muzilene is the winner of the 1st edition of the Sustainable Art Biennial Meeting 2025 (EBAS-Maputo) competition. Artists Chaleque and António Mucavele took second and third place respectively.
On the occasion, the Mayor of Maputo, Rasaque Manhique, said that artists are agents of transformation and, through art, are contributing to a more conscious, creative, and sustainable city.
Manhique explained that from the beginning of the exhibition, the talent, creativity, and critical spirit of artists who, using recyclable materials and innovative concepts, transformed waste into powerful messages, were evident.
“Each work was a silent cry of hope and an invitation to ecological awareness.”
Environmentalist Rui Silva, in turn, said that the first edition of EBAS-Maputo exceeded expectations, receiving 197 works from almost every corner of the country, proving that “It’s not garbage that’s produced, but rather raw materials”.
EBAS-Maputo is a sustainable art competition promoted with the aim of raising awareness among residents about solid waste management.
