JICA Mozambique Delegation Visits FCM for Medical Training

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Faculty of Medical Sciences (FCM) at Unicamp [ located in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil] on Wednesday received a delegation from Japan International Cooperation Agency-Mozambique (JICA) to discuss future partnerships in the training of Mozambican doctors. The visit was facilitated by Professor Plínio Trabasso, deputy head of the Department of Clinical Medicine at FCM.

The delegation was welcomed by the director and associate director of FCM, Claudio Coy e Erich Vinicius de Paula, and by the teaching advisor of the Pro-Rectorate of Extension and Culture at Unicamp, Rubens Bedrikow.

The Mozambican delegation was made up of: Health Education Advisor at the Ministry of Health, Lucy Ito; and the representatives of JICA, Ryo Ishiguro, Takayuki Tsuji e Haruki Ogasa.

The main topic of the meeting was the proposed cooperation to send Mozambican doctors to Brazil for professional master’s programs. The project envisages training 10 doctors per year for four years in critical areas for Mozambique, where there is a shortage of specialists: Neonatology, Imaging, Intensive Care, and Anaesthesiology.

JICA, the Japan International Cooperation Agency, has maintained a research agreement with Unicamp for several years, and this initiative reinforces the institutions’ commitment to global health development. The partnership aims not only to train Mozambican professionals but also to strengthen international cooperation ties between the countries involved.

The meeting marked the beginning of promising discussions, with the expectation of advancing the project’s details in the coming months. Unicamp, recognized for its excellence in teaching and research, once again demonstrates its active role in training healthcare professionals and in collaborating with international institutions.
